Because she's worth it

Treat your mum in Belgravia and Mayfair this mother’s day
Champaign truffles from William Curley, Pimlico Rd London

Dedicate Sunday 18 March to your mum and make it a day to remember. Whether it’s about spending quality time together, pampering her or splashing the cash on a girls’ day out, we’ve got more than enough ideas for spoiling her rotten.

Start with a stroll through the streets of Belgravia; download one of our free walking tours and discover places you never knew existed. En route, make a stop at Baker and Spice; they offer a lip-smacking array of baked goods – from brioche to scones, cookies and biscuits, which you can either wash down with a pot of tea for two, or upgrade to a glass of fizz. If you’d rather have your mum all to yourself, pre-order one of their fabulous handmade cakes to eat at home – we like the look of their French almond cake.

If gifts are the way to your mother’s heart, the limited edition Rose Splendide fragrance from Annick Goutal will make her feel extra special. Or drop by Joanna Wood’s interior design shop and pick out something for her home; we’re fans of Joanna’s kitsch ‘amore’ heart toast rack and chessboard plate. If she’s a wine connoisseur then a bottle of Barolo San Giovanni 2005 from the Market Quarter will be a nice addition to her collection. And forget simply presenting her with a bouquet of flowers: book a flower-arranging course for two at Judith Blacklock Flower School and a vase of flowers will never look the same again.

An express manicure and La Prairie facial for two at Hushh Spa (formerly Glow Urban Spa) is an indulgent way to spend a morning. Afterwards, head to La Poule au Pot for a deliciously authentic lunch. Order classic French bistro dishes such as onion soup, bouillabaisse and coq au vin. Or skip the main course and head straight for the dessert.

William Curley has been named Britain’s best chocolatier by the Academy of Chocolate for five consecutive years, and deservedly so. Book two seats at his dessert bar and find out what all the fuss is about; £40 will buy you a three-course dessert menu for two. If your mum likes getting stuck in, then book her onto one of William’s courses, she’ll be hand-crafting truffles and sea-salt caramels in no time at all. In the evening, slip on your party frocks and head to the Blue Bar at the Berkeley hotel for a sophisticated girls’ night out drinking cocktails and spotting celebrities.
