Boris backs Mayfair and Belgravia
Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, reveals himself as a fan of London’s hidden gems
Those in the know have long recognised Mayfair and Belgravia as great places to shop, eat, live and work. So it’s no surprise that Boris Johnson, who has been London’s mayor since 2008, is among their number.
“Although situated in the heart of the capital, for many people Mayfair and Belgravia might be something of a mystery,” he said. “Some will associate these areas with luxury shopping, top hotels and expensive property, attracting international jetsetters and wealth creators. All of which is true, of course – let's not forget that Mayfair is the most expensive street on the Monopoly board.
“But each area has its own distinctive qualities, akin to villages within the city, with fascinating sights and history to be discovered,” he added. “From the original May Fayre of 300 years ago to the beautifully redeveloped Mount Street, and the open land of the Five Fields to the charming squares in present-day Belgravia, there is a wealth of exploring to be done, on foot or astride one of our fabulous hire bikes.”
