Celebrate 325 years of the May Fayre
Come to Mount Street on Thursday 19 May for a stylish modern version of a historic celebration.
London’s most fashionable district is named after the ‘May Fayre’ that was first held in 1686 and took place annually until well into the 1700s. Recently the event has been revived, and the 2011 May Fayre takes place in Mount Street on Thursday 19 May from 5.30-8.30pm.
The 18th-century May Fayre featured “good Archers, Morice-dancers, and other devices for pastime all the day long”. The 2011 version still includes morris dancers, along with magic, music (performers include a string quartet and a flautist) and ambient fashion shows.
There will also be street performances from comedy stilt duo Madame Ovary and Cecily Bumtrinket and acrobats The Victorian Strongmen, as well as mini theatrical shows from The Dress Circle.
Above all, the evening will give visitors the chance to enjoy fine food and drink and explore the many attractions of the recently refurbished Mount Street, one of the finest shopping destinations in the world.
