Creating Inspiring Places
Grosvenor Britain & Ireland is a part of Grosvenor, a privately owned property company, with an international property portfolio covering more than 70 cities.
Grosvenor Britain & Ireland’s oldest and best-known asset is its London estate, 300 acres in Mayfair and Belgravia, acquired as farm and marsh land in 1677, when Sir Thomas Grosvenor married Mary Davies.
This land, in the centuries that followed, was carefully developed by the Grosvenor family into the beautiful, thoughtfully designed neighbourhoods of Mayfair and Belgravia. Today, they are home to a mix of elegant houses, offices, boutiques and restaurants, in what are now considered two of London’s finest districts. Although the wider
portfolio extends far beyond the perimeters of central London, and indeed beyond Britain and Ireland, to the Americas and to Asia, these two areas illustrate the important stewardship role Grosvenor adopted, as steward of the London estate for more than three centuries.
The first phase of developing the London estate began with what we now call Mayfair. The early mixed-use community began with Grosvenor Square, the first London square with unified terraced housing. The second phase of development came a century later with Belgravia, arranged in Regency style squares, streets and crescents including Belgrave Square, Eaton Square and Chester Square. Since then, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has been committed to conserving the historical integrity and architectural character of the areas while ensuring they remain lively, thriving places in which people can live happily, work productively and enjoy their free time. From the head office on Grosvenor Street, our specialist team draws on an extensive knowledge of what makes for success in urban environments, overseeing the refurbishment of the London estate’s old buildings, the introduction of new buildings, revitalising public spaces and refreshing the tenant mix to ensure these very special places continue to thrive.
Our long-term goal is to continue to play our part in improving the quality of life for those living and working in Mayfair and Belgravia, by investing in places – both the architecture and landscaping - to maintain & develop the essential character of these neighbourhoods.
