There are a huge number of fantastic restaurants dotted around Mayfair catering to all tastes. But one in particular – 34 Mayfair
in fact – is a little more eye-catching than usual at the moment.
You will have seen the vibrant awning hanging over the entrance, but what you might have missed is that it was designed by fabrics specialists Liberty London
as part of a new collaboration. James Millar, Liberty’s design director, says that the special ‘Garden of Beauty’ pattern “fuses together bold 1960s patterns redrawn and interpreted for today, adding modernity and really complimenting the artistic yet approachable 34 Mayfair brand”.
It’s not just the outside that’s had a makeover either. The restaurant’s doormen and maître d’ team sport Liberty print ties and pocket squares, while cushions with the ‘Garden of Beauty’ design are scattered pleasingly around the dining room. 34 Mayfair’s pastry chefs have also designed a dessert to mark the occasion, while the bar team will mix you up a cocktail inspired by the pattern.
The design was inspired by oriental flowers using two references from Liberty’s 40,000-strong archive of patterns. The archive dates back to the 1880s.
This fusion of the contemporary and historical is what makes the collaboration so perfect, James believes, saying: “Liberty London was thrilled to partner with 34 Mayfair: its modern approach with a touch of wit and a hint of heritage deco is the perfect showcase for crafted and spirited interior designs.”
