Pimlico Road Design District - London Design Festival 2018

Whilst the Pimlico Road Design District celebrates its second year as part of London Design Festival, the district has long been known as one of London’s most important and well-established areas for interior design, art, antiques and fine furniture. Pimlico Road is proud to be home to some of the most evocative names in design and interiors and will this year host a series of talks, new product launches and exhibitions for the festival.

The Importance Of Drawing In Design

Sculptor-maker Christopher Cox and interior designer Sophie Elborne of Kitesgrove will be in conversation with Gabby Deeming, Creative Director of House & Garden about the importance of hand drawing in their design practice, exploring the journey from paper to 3-dimensions. Both Sophie and Chris use hand drawings as a means to kick start a project and inspire their clients. Then more formal drawings, conveying, form, atmosphere and technical information, will drive a project to the next stage of building or manufacture.

Painted Rattan And Its Use In Interiors

The founder and creative director of Soane Britain, Lulu Lytle, will be discussing how painted rattan furniture and lighting transforms the look of an interior. Soane’s craftsmen will also be demonstrating their skill at weaving rattan lighting.

Soane Britain is proud to own the only remaining rattan-weaving workshop in Britain. Watch as their craftsmen demonstrate their skill, with particular emphasis on woven lighting designs, and experience the weaving process for yourself. Alongside this, Lulu Lytle will be discussing how painted rattan furniture and lighting transforms the look of an interior.

The Art Deco Effect

Poggenpohl will host an informal lunch in its Pimlico Road showroom. Master Chef finalist Sven-Hanson Britt will be cooking a delicious meal using the latest Miele appliances and there will also be the opportunity to meet the Poggenpohl designers and view the latest kitchens from this 126 year old German kitchen brand.

Exhibitions and New Product Launches

In addition to the Pimlico Road: In Conversation with programme, the Pimlico Road Design District will celebrate London Design Festival with exhibitions, new product launches and drinks receptions.

Carl Hansen and Son

Visit the new Carl Hansen & Son Flagship Store for a drink and nibbles on Monday 17 September, where they will have a weaver from Denmark who will finish the famous Faaborg chair, designed by Kaare Klint.

Luke Irwin will host an exhibition of the Sari Silk collection at the Pimlico Road showroom. The Luke Irwin Sari Silk collection is made entirely from recycled saris. The recycling process of taking old saris and reapplying them to rugs makes this the most joyous and unexpected of constructions.
